Teenager shot dead near Israeli embassy in Serbia: what happened

In the Serbian capital Belgrade, a minor armed with two knives attacked a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy. The officer shot and killed the attacker but was slightly injured himself. The country’s authorities have raised the terror threat level to the highest level following the incident.

This was announced by Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.

The incident occurred on October 28 at around 00:15 local time. According to the minister, a teenager, whose identity has not yet been identified, attacked a gendarmerie officer with two knives, shouting “Allahu Akbar.”

The police officer returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker. The police officer himself suffered a cut to his face.

According to preliminary information from the Serbian authorities, the attacker could have been a resident of the city of Šabac.

“Although his identity has not yet been established, our service has been monitoring him, and it is known that he was a supporter of the Islamic State. On his Instagram page, he posted a black flag and Islamic State symbols,” the minister said.

After the attack, Dacic declared the highest, red, terrorist threat level. The country increased the police presence near important infrastructure facilities and in places of mass gatherings.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the embassy was closed at the time of the attack. No diplomatic staff were injured.

As a reminder, in May 2025, two employees of the Israeli embassy were shot dead in Washington . The attack occurred near the Jewish Museum, where employees of the diplomatic institution were participating in an event.
