The new head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service may be German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

This was reported by Spiegel<\/a>. <\/p>\n

German Ambassador to Kyiv Jaeger is to succeed Bruno Kahl, according to Spiegel. The change at the head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service is the result of Merz’s decision, as the BND reports directly to the Federal Chancellor. <\/p>\n

The German government, however, has not yet officially confirmed this possible rotation. However, according to the magazine, the personnel decision was made some time ago. <\/p>\n

According to the plan, the current BND president, Bruno Kahl, will become Germany’s ambassador to the Vatican. <\/p>\n

It is noted that thanks to Jaeger, “one of the most experienced crisis diplomats in the Foreign Ministry,” German intelligence will be reorganized and receive more funding for this. <\/p>\n

“In addition, the federal government wants to give the service more flexibility in foreign espionage and technical intelligence,” the publication says. <\/p>\n

It is known that Jaeger has had extensive contact with the work of intelligence services in recent years – both in Berlin and in crisis regions of the world. In addition to various positions in the Foreign Ministry, where he temporarily held the position of spokesman for Minister Steinmeier, in 2013 he headed the German Embassy in Afghanistan, later in Iraq, where he has headed the embassy in Baghdad since 2021, and since July 2023 has held a similar position in Kyiv. <\/p>\n

Earlier, German intelligence received evidence of the Kremlin’s preparation for potential aggression against NATO<\/a>. They indicate that Russia plans to test the effectiveness of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. <\/p>\n
