The figures exceeded forecasts due to adverse weather conditions and active exports of Ukrainian food products.

This is stated in the commentary of the National Bank of Ukraine regarding the inflation rate in May.

According to the National Bank, the main reason for the increase in inflation was the rapid increase in the price of raw food products. Prices for this category of goods increased by 26.4% year-on-year due to the delay in the arrival of the harvest and a decrease in yields due to spring cold snaps.

Inflation was particularly evident in the prices of apples, berries, and greenhouse vegetables. At the same time, active exports and high world prices led to a significant increase in the prices of meat, eggs, and milk against the background of a decrease in livestock.

Core inflation was 12.3%, and prices for processed food products rose to 18% due to higher raw material prices and increased labor costs for businesses.

However, the National Bank noted a positive trend in the slowdown in fuel price growth to 1.2%.

“Inflation is expected to slow down in the future across a wide range of goods and services. This should be facilitated, in particular, by the expansion of food supply amid the arrival of new harvests,” the NBU predicts.

Also, the improvement in the energy situation, the decrease in world oil prices, and the effect of last year’s increase in electricity tariffs will contribute to the reduction in inflation.

Earlier, the World Bank updated its macroeconomic forecast for Ukraine, taking into account the possible development of a full-scale war. According to the base scenario, if the Russian invasion continues until the end of 2025, then in 2026 the Ukrainian economy will grow by 5.2% .

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Inflation in May was 15.9% year-on-year, the highest in 2025.
