A tragic plane crash that shocked the entire country occurred over the city of Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat on Thursday. An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner passenger plane crashed just a minute after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flight AI171, bound for London Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 passengers and crew from four countries, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian.<\/p>\n

The tragedy unfolded quickly and unexpectedly. The plane took off at 1:38 p.m.<\/strong> local time, but within 60 seconds,<\/strong> contact with the aircraft was lost at an altitude of just 625 feet.<\/p>\n

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India, the crew managed to transmit a distress signal to the control room, but after that the plane stopped responding to calls.<\/p>\n

Witnesses reported seeing thick clouds of black smoke rising from the crash site beyond the airport perimeter. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the injured were taken to local medical facilities.<\/p>\n

The news of the disaster has caused a wave of grief among senior officials. Indian Prime Minister<\/strong> Narendra Modi called the tragedy “unspeakable” and said it had “shocked and saddened” the entire nation. Home Minister<\/strong> Amit Shah expressed “unspeakable pain” over the disaster, and Foreign Minister<\/strong> S. Jaishankar expressed deep shock.<\/p>\n

Boeing confirmed it was aware of the crash and was working to gather more information about the incident. The investigation is expected to be led by India, with experts from the US and UK, the countries of manufacture and destination of the aircraft, respectively.<\/p>\n

The number of victims remains unknown as rescue operations and medical assistance to the victims continue.<\/p>\n
