{"id":1240733,"date":"2025-06-12T15:10:05","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T12:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/the-number-of-victims-of-human-trafficking-in-ukraine-has-increased-sharply-due-to-the-war-council-of-europe-report\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T15:10:05","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T12:10:05","slug":"the-number-of-victims-of-human-trafficking-in-ukraine-has-increased-sharply-due-to-the-war-council-of-europe-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/the-number-of-victims-of-human-trafficking-in-ukraine-has-increased-sharply-due-to-the-war-council-of-europe-report\/","title":{"rendered":"The number of victims of human trafficking in Ukraine has increased sharply due to the war &#8211; Council of Europe report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Russia&#8217;s aggression has increased the risks of human trafficking in Ukraine and led to an increase in the number of related crimes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coe.int\/fr\/web\/anti-human-trafficking\/-\/greta-publishes-its-third-report-on-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">is stated<\/a> in the third report on Ukraine, published on June 12, by the Council of Europe&#8217;s group of experts on combating trafficking in human beings.<\/p>\n<p> The document notes that Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine has significantly increased the risks of human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p> Despite a decline in 2021\u20132022, when fewer than a hundred cases of human trafficking were recorded, the number of officially recognized victims of human trafficking increased &#8211; in 2023 to 118, and in 2024 to 182.<\/p>\n<p> Experts suggest that this is due to the deterioration of the socio-economic situation in Ukraine due to Russian aggression.<\/p>\n<p> GRETA notes that the real number of victims may be significantly higher than official statistics. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 7,000 people received appropriate assistance in 2018\u20132024.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The majority of victims were subjected to labor exploitation, followed by sexual exploitation, participation in criminal activities, and exploitation in armed conflict,&#8221; the Council of Europe states.<\/p>\n<p> GRETA makes a number of recommendations to the authorities, including:<\/p>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li> improving assistance to victims of human trafficking;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> strengthening their protection;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> creation of a state compensation system.<\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p> In addition, experts call on the Ukrainian authorities to adopt a legislative provision on non-punishment of victims of human trafficking, promote the social reintegration of victims, and provide them with medical care.<\/p>\n<p> Earlier, in the Odessa region <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/na-odeshchyni-zhinka-obmanom-vidpravliala-ukrainok-u-seksualne-rabstvo-za-kordon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">, border guards, together with law enforcement officers, exposed a woman who was sending Ukrainian women abroad into &#8220;sexual slavery.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p> Also follow <strong>\u201cPryamim\u201d<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pryamiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Facebook<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/prm_ua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Twitter<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/+rtV4dxYu2_cyNjVi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Telegram<\/a> , and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/pryamiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a> .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Russia&#8217;s aggression has increased the risks of human trafficking in Ukraine and led to an increase in the number of related crimes.
