First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Kornienko called Ukraine’s “package” entry into the European Union together with the Balkan states possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He stated<\/a> this in a comment to Ukrinform.<\/p>\n

Kornienko stated that Ukraine “is not against” everyone “joining the EU quickly as a package.” At the same time, he emphasized that this means a lot of “homework” for everyone, because situations like those in Ukraine exist in other countries as well.<\/p>\n

He also added that Russia still has influence in the Balkans, which are “famous for their hot tempers.” So Ukraine needs to find a common position with the Balkans.<\/p>\n

“We are ahead of schedule. We really had a plan to open two clusters at the intergovernmental conference in June, and if it had not been blocked by Hungary, we would now be holding this intergovernmental conference in Poland, and we would have opened these two clusters there. We already have the third one ready. By the end of the year, the screenings of all six clusters will be ready. This is a joint achievement of us and Brussels,” he said.<\/p>\n

Kornienko noted that Ukraine is currently fighting to join the EU and is ready to work on reforms and their implementation.<\/p>\n

He also said that in parallel with screening legislation and preparing for the opening of clusters, it is necessary to work with member states, because “27 countries mean 27 political decisions.”<\/p>\n

“Each country can block them in one way or another or set its own conditions. Yes, we don’t really like this, and we should probably fight for a less politicized approach. Because it turns out that for Ukraine, which currently protects Europe and is a very important contributor to European security, the eastern outpost of the European Union’s security, the process of joining the European Union is currently being slowed down for political reasons,” Kornienko noted.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Hungary does not plan to approve the opening of negotiation clusters in negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union<\/a> due to tense bilateral political relations.<\/p>\n
