On June 11, 2025, the abbot of the Pochaev Holy Spirit Monastery-Skete of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate), Archimandrite Paphnutius (in the world Sergey Tselik, born in 1971) was mobilized after a court hearing in the city of Kremenets.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Archdeacon Vadim Dombrovsky reported this on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n

According to him, Pafnutiy was detained by representatives of the Ternopil Regional Territorial Recruitment Center (TRRC) and transported to Ternopil.<\/p>\n

In a comment to journalists, the TCC explained that the archimandrite did not take advantage of his right to a deferment from mobilization, which means he is on a general basis as a citizen liable for military service.<\/p>\n

In turn, Dombrovsky stated that: “According to international law, a clergyman cannot be called up to the army, and even more so cannot take up arms. This is not only a gross violation of human rights, but also a direct disregard for the spiritual mission.”<\/p>\n

He recalled that Father Paphnutius has headed the monastery-skete since 1997.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Ukrainian legislation does not provide for an automatic deferment for all clergy. It is granted by decision of the TCC in specific cases based on an official request and confirmed documents. That is, a clergyman who has not submitted the relevant documents falls under the general rules of mobilization.<\/p>\n

It is known that in Donetsk Oblast, the Security Service counterintelligence detained another FSB agent. He turned out to be a 58-year-old archpriest of the Pokrovsky Vicariate of the Moscow Church in Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

Let us recall that the Security Service of Ukraine documented the anti-Ukrainian activities of the rector of one of the churches of the Odessa diocese of the UOC (MP). The investigation established that the archpriest, during sermons and communication with parishioners , justified Russian armed aggression, publicly glorified the occupation groups of the Russian Federation and glorified Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> .<\/p>\n

As reported, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the escape abroad of a 20-year-old resident of Cherkasy, who had been wanted for almost two and a half years for supporting Russian aggression and praising the occupiers. The offender was detained in Bukovina near the UOC (MP) monastery, where he was hiding<\/a> and planning to illegally cross the border in the direction of the European Union.<\/p>\n

By the way, the UN criticizes Ukraine for the alleged lack of “sufficient justification” for the dissolution of religious organizations<\/a> , in particular, the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP).<\/p>\n
