Switzerland may return over 130 million francs to Ukraine that were frozen after Viktor Yanukovych\u2019s escape.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Swiss law enforcement has decided to initiate the process of returning more than 130 million francs to Ukraine, despite recognizing that the Ukrainian judicial system is not sufficiently effective to independently investigate the origin of the frozen assets.<\/p>\n

The Swiss Supreme Court has rejected the appeals of individuals from the entourage of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who own the frozen funds, upholding the legality of the asset freeze.<\/p>\n

Now, Swiss authorities may move forward with returning funds believed to have been withdrawn during the height of corruption in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the Swiss Federal Department of Finance must file confiscation claims with the Federal Administrative Court. This process requires proving that the frozen assets were obtained illegally. Only after that can the funds be returned to Ukraine.
\nEarlier, Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency signed an agreement necessary to receive $3 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that in Ukraine, a total of almost 20 billion hryvnias worth of property belonging to Russia has been seized<\/a>.<\/p>\n
