On Friday, June 13, the Appropriations Committee of the United States House of Representatives approved its version of the defense spending bill for fiscal year 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported by<\/span><\/a> the publication Breaking Defense.<\/span><\/p>\n

The committee voted overwhelmingly to send the bill to the House of Representatives for consideration, allocating $832 billion for defense needs.<\/p>\n

American lawmakers spent more than an hour debating an amendment that would have provided an additional $300 million in funding for defense assistance to Ukraine. However, the amendment, proposed by Ohio Democrat Marcy Kaptur, was rejected.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole expressed concerns that including Ukraine funding in the bill could jeopardize its passage. According to Cole, such a decision might cause some Republicans to oppose the bill, while Democrats are unlikely to support it due to the bill\u2019s conservative political positions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI say this as someone who has consistently supported Ukraine. I wrote the bill on the largest aid package, and my opinion on this matter has not changed. I want the defense bill to be passed, and I am not interested in splitting those who will support it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\nIt was previously reported that the United States of America will likely reduce military assistance to Kyiv<\/a> and will further withdraw from active participation in the process of peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
