During the G7 summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a new defense aid package to Ukraine valued at over 2 billion Canadian dollars (approximately 1.5 billion US dollars). The announcement came ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and included plans for a significant expansion of sanctions against Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are providing Ukraine with additional drones, helicopters, and various types of ammunition\u2014the total military assistance exceeds 2 billion Canadian dollars,\u201d Carney stated.<\/p>\n

In addition to defense support, Canada announced new sanctions against Russia. The list of restrictions targets dozens of companies and individuals aiding the Kremlin in evading sanctions. Moreover, more than 200 vessels belonging to Russia\u2019s so-called \u201cshadow fleet,\u201d used to circumvent the oil embargo, have also been sanctioned.<\/p>\n

Another significant measure is the decision to extend a $2 billion loan to Ukraine, secured by guarantees on frozen Russian assets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our contribution to Ukraine\u2019s victory. We are working closely with European and other allies to unite efforts. Our support will remain unwavering until Ukrainians achieve a just peace,\u201d Carney emphasized.
\nBy the way, Ukraine received another tranche of financial assistance from the European Union<\/a> – the state budget received 1 billion euros under the ERA Loan program.<\/p>\n
