{"id":1248134,"date":"2025-06-18T11:31:47","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T08:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/the-verkhovna-rada-adopted-a-law-on-multiple-citizenship\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T11:31:47","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T08:31:47","slug":"the-verkhovna-rada-adopted-a-law-on-multiple-citizenship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/the-verkhovna-rada-adopted-a-law-on-multiple-citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on multiple citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill on the introduction of the institution of multiple citizenship in Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/oleksiihoncharenko\/47727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">was reported by<\/a> People&#8217;s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko.<\/p>\n<p> It is noted that the initiator of the bill on multiple citizenship is President Zelensky.<\/p>\n<p> Multiple citizenship can be acquired in the following cases:<\/p>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li> In the event that a child acquires Ukrainian citizenship and the citizenship of another state at birth;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> If a child who is a citizen of Ukraine acquires the citizenship of his or her foreign adoptive parents;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> In the event of automatic acquisition of another citizenship by a citizen of Ukraine as a result of marriage to a foreigner;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> If citizenship is automatically acquired by an adult citizen of Ukraine of another nationality as a result of the application of the legislation on citizenship of a foreign state, if such a citizen of Ukraine has not received a document confirming his\/her citizenship of another state;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> In the case of acquiring citizenship of Ukraine in a simplified procedure for foreigners who are citizens of states included in the list of those who can obtain citizenship in a simplified procedure;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li> If citizenship was acquired by a Ukrainian from a state from the list of those whose citizens acquire citizenship of Ukraine in a simplified manner.<\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p> The law states that citizens of Ukraine who are simultaneously citizens of states included in the Cabinet of Ministers&#8217; list may renounce Ukrainian citizenship upon request to the foreign state of which they are citizens, regardless of their place of residence.<\/p>\n<p> Renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship is optional for a citizen of Ukraine who has acquired citizenship of a state included in the list of the Cabinet of Ministers.<\/p>\n<p> Voluntary acquisition by a citizen of Ukraine of citizenship of a state that is not included in the list of the Cabinet of Ministers will be grounds for loss of Ukrainian citizenship.<\/p>\n<p> The relevant law regulates the issue of multiple citizenship for the first time at the legislative level. The document was developed as a response to demographic and security challenges, as well as the need to restore and maintain ties with millions of Ukrainians outside the country.<\/p>\n<p> Earlier it became known that <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/v-ukraini-rozpochaly-pidhotovku-zakonu-pro-mnozhynne-hromadianstvo-koly-zavershat-dokument\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine is completing the preparation of a law that will allow citizens to hold passports of several countries<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p> Let us recall that in December 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/rada-pidtrymala-novyy-zakonoproiekt-pro-nabuttia-ta-vtratu-hromadianstva-ukrainy-shcho-vin-peredbachaie\/\">a draft law on ensuring the implementation of the right to acquire and retain Ukrainian citizenship.<\/a><\/p>\n<p> Also follow <strong>\u201cPryamim\u201d<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pryamiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Facebook<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/prm_ua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Twitter<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/+rtV4dxYu2_cyNjVi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Telegram<\/a> , and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/pryamiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill on the introduction of the institution of multiple citizenship in Ukraine.
