IRIS-T air defense systems, which cannot intercept ballistic and hypersonic missiles, will be able to do so thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> in Defense Express.<\/p>\n

Developers Diehl Defense and Hensoldt report that the IRIS-T SLM is to receive new software and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

The integration of AI is related to adapting to “modern air attacks, which demonstrate significant complexity and diversity of means.”<\/p>\n

Cruise missiles, supersonic and hypersonic missiles, drones, and ballistic missiles “have created new challenges for air defense.”<\/p>\n

In addition to AI in IRIS-T, which will help it work against ballistic and even hypersonic targets, the developers plan to solve other difficulties associated with these threats. Namely, to establish automation of the folding and unfolding of the complex for mobility.<\/p>\n

“We are working on fully automated processes and at least partially autonomous vehicles to be able to change positions as quickly as possible, despite small numbers,” Diehl Defence noted.<\/p>\n

The first steps towards this goal are identified as involving AI in target detection in the TRML-4D radar, as well as combining data from various sensors into a single network.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Ukraine has entered into a long-term agreement with Germany for the supply of modern IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems<\/a> .<\/p>\n

It is worth recalling that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the Russians’ intentions to launch new attacks on Ukrainian energy<\/a> .<\/p>\n
