The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, has exposed a large-scale corruption scheme in the Odessa City Council. Officials, together with local businessmen, embezzled budget funds allocated for the installation of monuments to fallen Ukrainian soldiers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the SBU.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, the criminal scheme consisted of concluding fictitious or inflated contracts for the arrangement of burial sites. Thus, out of the allocated almost 4.8 million UAH, officials appropriated more than 2.1 million – that is, about 50% of the budget, which was supposed to provide free burial of heroes for their families.<\/p>\n

Independent examinations confirmed that the deal involved the installation of 88 memorial structures. The organizers of the scheme shared the “profits” among themselves, using their official positions and acting in collusion.<\/p>\n

All those involved have been charged with embezzlement of property on a particularly large scale during martial law, committed by an organized group. They face long prison terms.<\/p>\n

The issue of a preventive measure is currently being resolved. The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office.<\/p>\n

We will remind you that in the Donetsk region, a battalion commander was exposed who organized a scheme to illegally charge increased payments and impose “tribute” on subordinates<\/a> .<\/p>\n
