However, the publication emphasizes the additional danger associated with the demographic situation in Ukraine, which is already worsening.

Thus, the publication publishes a conversation between a correspondent and graduates and teachers of one of the Lviv schools.

Kira Yukhymenko, a 17-year-old displaced person from Zaporizhzhia region, said that she had planned to enter a university in Kyiv or Kharkiv by 2022. But after moving to Lviv and visiting Krakow, Poland, several times, she changed her mind. The main reason was that the quality of education decreases during the war.

“During an air raid or bombing, it’s impossible to study. You have to go down to the bomb shelter and go online. And I want to succeed in my studies,” the graduate explained.

Her classmate, Tetiana Marviy, said she had previously planned to enter a university in Ukraine, but changed her mind after her sister failed to earn high marks in exams due to the constant air raid sirens. She now plans to study international relations in Vilnius.

Taras Hryvniak, a former student of the Lviv Physics and Mathematics Lyceum, entered the University of Vienna. According to him, half of the boys from his class and the same number of girls left for Europe.

Their teacher, Lyudmila Makokhina, confirmed that many children are thinking about emigrating, choosing universities in Europe rather than in Ukraine.

Another teacher from Lviv, Svitlana Bozhko, said that out of 34 students in her graduating 11th grade, 18 students will move to Europe: 8 girls and 11 boys.

The publication notes that since 2022, Ukrainian youth have been choosing to study in safe countries, and more and more young people, especially girls, are leaving every year. In addition to the brain drain, this is accelerating Ukraine’s slide into the demographic abyss.

“The wave of emigration is a demographic time bomb,” the article says.

The publication writes that the number of young women leaving Ukraine is growing every year. For example, the number of Ukrainian female students in Poland doubled in the year after the Russian invasion.

Data from the Austrian Statistical Office confirm this trend: the number of applicants from Ukraine to Austrian universities has increased by 60% since 2021:

2021/2022 academic year – 2,077 students
2022/2023 academic year – 2,652 students
2023/2024 academic year – 3,324 students

As a reminder, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi admitted that in Ukraine there is indeed a trend of students going abroad after completing grade 11. At the same time, according to him, this is not a mass exodus of high school students.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada is discussing the possibility of allowing men under the age of 23–24 to travel abroad for military service.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

In Ukraine, against the backdrop of war and martial law, there is a trend of students going abroad after the 11th grade, in particular, this applies to girls.
