The Baltic countries, Northern Europe and Poland plan to ban Russian citizens who participated in the war against Ukraine from entering the Schengen area. The joint decision has already been approved by the interior ministers of the respective states.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also present at the meeting in Tallinn were European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner and a representative of the European Union border guard agency Frontex.<\/p>\n

“Hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens fought against an independent European state. We should take a clear position that these people will not be able to travel freely in the Schengen zone. We will not give them residence permits and visas, because all these people who were killed and destroyed there represent a very big security risk for all of us,” said Estonian Interior Minister Igor Taro.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the plans are to maintain such a ban for the Russian military even after active hostilities in Ukraine end.<\/p>\n

Recall that after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Swedish authorities stepped up checks on Russian scientists working in technical fields, which led to a wave of deportations and long-term bans on entry to the Schengen zone.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, two opposition parties in the Netherlands, D66 and CDA, have proposed temporarily excluding Hungary from the Schengen area over concerns that the country is allowing too many Russians to enter without proper checks.<\/a><\/p>\n
