The European Union has postponed a plan to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil, given the risk of rising energy prices due to the conflict in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by Politico, citing its own sources.<\/p>\n

The reduction of the maximum price for Russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel was to be discussed in Brussels by EU foreign ministers.<\/p>\n

Two diplomatic sources told Politico that the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran has made a reduction in oil prices unrealistic.<\/p>\n

“The idea of lowering the price ceiling is unlikely to work due to the international situation in the Middle East and the instability of the market. At the G7 summit this week, all countries agreed that this decision should not be made at this time. Prices were close to the limit level, but now they are fluctuating rapidly – the situation is too unstable,” said one of the sources.<\/p>\n

It is noted that at the G7 summit in Canada, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen admitted that the sanctions already imposed “have had little effect.”<\/p>\n

In recent days, world oil prices have started to rise, so the current price ceiling is still functioning. The EU believes that there is no need to lower it at this time.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that on June 13, after Israel’s attacks on Iran, world oil prices increased by more than 9%<\/a> . Brent crude oil was being sold for more than $75 per barrel.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on Tuesday, June 17, the United Kingdom announced the introduction of new sanctions against Russia.<\/a> Restrictions were imposed on 10 individuals and 20 vessels.<\/p>\n
