The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, is causing “bipartisan irritation” and the US administration’s reluctance to meet with him, as the current government in Ukraine has removed professional diplomats from the negotiation processes without offering a sensible alternative in return.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This opinion was expressed<\/a> on the air of “Pryamoy” by Valeriy Chaly, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.<\/p>\n

“This is a signal that is given in this way. But reducing the discussion to Andriy Yermak’s ability to negotiate is completely too late and insufficient. The problem is that on the American side, we have not made any serious modifications in connection with the arrival of the new team. Although President Donald Trump was previously the 45th president, this team that now surrounds him is different people, there should be different approaches to them, different interaction,” Chaly noted.<\/p>\n

However, after the arrival of the new US Presidential Administration, the current government did not change the mechanisms of work that existed during the time of Joe Biden, although it was worth doing so. In addition, the Office of the President of Ukraine took over the negotiating function, removing professional diplomats from all processes, – added the former ambassador to the US.<\/p>\n

“We have a faulty mechanism now. We have had an American direction for a long time, starting from when I completed my work as an ambassador, because this was the reason for my decision to leave the diplomatic service, it was said that embassies would play logistical functions. As I was directly told, you will carry the suitcases, and we will decide all the issues of what to do in America in the Office of the President… Therefore, since 2019, the attitude towards this work has changed. We decided that in this way we can find the most talented negotiator and entrust him with the entire American direction. This is doubtful,” recalls Chaly.<\/p>\n

The diplomat cited the “mineral agreement” with the US as an example of such a dubious policy, when Ukrainian negotiators actually agreed to all the conditions without receiving almost anything in return.<\/p>\n

“Look, there’s also that “mineral agreement”. They met there, negotiations, signing – everything is fine. That is, you just need to find mutual interest. Only this did not help improve relations. From the word “at all”. And that was understandable. When you give everything in negotiations and get nothing in return, then, of course, this is a kind of success,” noted Valeriy Chaly, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.<\/p>\n\n

Politico recently reported that Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, is increasingly a source of irritation in Washington<\/a> . This is confirmed by more than a dozen sources among former and current US officials, as well as congressional aides.<\/p>\n

According to journalists, some of the interlocutors describe Yermak as overly demanding, harsh in communication, and poorly informed about domestic US politics. Some express concerns that he may have inaccurately conveyed Washington’s position to the Ukrainian leadership. One source described him as a “bipartisan irritant.”<\/p>\n

Earlier, Ukrainian politician Volodymyr Omelyan stated that Ukraine should change the destroyed vertical of power, because total corruption and the crisis of governance only benefit the enemy, not our state, as evidenced in particular by the recent visits of the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak to the US<\/a> and his efforts on the diplomatic front.<\/p>\n

In addition, People’s Deputy Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze claims that the last visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the White House once again showed that it is worth changing its composition and appointing a new special representative of Ukraine in negotiations with the US, because Andriy Yermak cannot continue to perform these functions<\/a> .<\/p>\n
