Lately, we have been hearing more about veterans\u2014not as role models, but because of scandals.<\/p>\n

The reason is that many find it easier to see veterans as they once were: silent and forgotten.<\/p>\n

A comrade once asked, \u201cSo now we\u2019re just going to be \u2018old men,\u2019 like those from the Soviet era?\u201d I would like to say no. Let the state do its part.<\/p>\n

More than a million people held this country together when everything could have fallen apart. Their experience and resilience are what can drive us forward.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t need the state to simply \u201chelp veterans.\u201d We need the country to become a nation of veterans.<\/p>\n

If this doesn\u2019t happen, something else will emerge\u2014veterans will find their ways to realize themselves. But that might not align with what the state or society wants.<\/p>\n

Respect isn\u2019t empty words from a podium; it\u2019s consulting veterans and valuing their input.<\/p>\n

One more thing: people often talk about veterans without involving veterans themselves.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to change the approach. A veteran is not a problem. A veteran is someone who has already proven they can act.<\/p>\n
