Sanctions in Ukraine, which are intended to be a tool for protection against external threats, are turning into a universal method of redistributing property in the interests of groups close to power.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> is reported by<\/span><\/a> the French publication 24matins.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is noted that in Ukraine, NSDC sanction mechanisms are increasingly being used instead of full-fledged criminal prosecution. At the same time, the procedure for initiating sanctions is opaque, in particular, the law does not contain clear requirements for filing and providing evidence, which contributes to arbitrariness and speculation.<\/span><\/p>\n

An example is the opaque and selective nature of the sanctions, including the current People’s Deputy Petro Poroshenko. According to him, the authorities tried to take away the TV channels “Pryamy” and “Pyatiy” from him under the guise of “de-oligarchization.” The People’s Deputy called these actions a “Gopnytskyi attempt to seize property.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Despite the patriotic packaging, such cases create a catastrophic effect for Ukraine’s image in the West,” notes 24matins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Citing The National Interest and The Hill, the publication notes that the West “does not trust Ukrainian sanctions,” because the evidence of their validity remains classified, and the procedure itself is devoid of transparency and judicial verification.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, it is emphasized that if military sanctions turn into a tool for settling scores or economic struggle, Ukraine may lose the trust of investors, creditors, and donors.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Ukraine is fighting for survival, but in this battle it must not lose its bearings. Sanctions cannot be a substitute for the court. Confiscations cannot turn into raiding. Populism cannot replace the law,” the French publication summarizes.<\/span><\/p>\n
