Russian President Vladimir Putin has personally intervened in the educational process, taking control of the content of history textbooks in schools. During a closed meeting with editors of educational materials, the Russian dictator criticized old editions written before the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine, saying they were allegedly “impregnated with Russophobia” and “distortion of historical facts.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

Putin’s initiative is part of a larger campaign to militarize education in Russia. The Kremlin is seeking to completely transform schooling, turning it into a tool for forming unconditional loyalty to war and an authoritarian regime.<\/p>\n

The new textbooks will be focused on justifying Russian aggression, in particular against Ukraine, and glorifying the security forces.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Education announced the exclusion of the Ukrainian language from the federal educational program. The explanatory note to the draft order explicitly states that such a change is due to “changes in the geopolitical situation.” In fact, this means the complete elimination of the Ukrainian language from the official part of school education.<\/p>\n

Despite the fact that schools can formally adopt their own programs for optional language study, the cancellation at the federal level is a clear signal of further Russification of education and a policy of cultural erasure of Ukrainian identity, particularly in the annexed Crimea and occupied parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin’s educational changes point to the final transformation of schools into centers of propaganda. In a country where any manifestation of dissent is being destroyed, school history will now be written “by the hand of the dictator.”<\/p>\n

Previously, the UK Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian education system is increasingly serving the interests of the Kremlin regime<\/a> , becoming a lever for the militarization of society and a tool for the ideological indoctrination of young people.<\/p>\n
