The meeting was the first since Donald Trump returned to the White House and, despite concerns about the US position, ended with a strong political signal in support of Ukraine and a significant review of the Alliance’s defense policy.

This is reported by “European Truth” .

In the final document adopted by the leaders of NATO member states, Russia is directly called a “long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security,” and the defense of Ukraine is part of the security of the Alliance itself .

For the first time, at the official level, NATO has agreed to include the costs of Ukraine’s defense support in overall national security spending, which opens up new opportunities for arms supplies and investments in our country’s military industry.

A new era of defense funding in NATO

One of the main decisions of the summit was the commitment of all NATO member countries to increase annual defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. This amount will consist of:

3.5% of GDP — for classic military needs: army, equipment, ammunition, infrastructure;

1.5% of GDP — for critical infrastructure projects, cybersecurity, innovation, and support for the defense industry.

This decision was reached at the insistence of the United States, particularly the Trump administration, which sought greater responsibility from European allies in matters of collective defense. The formula for supporting Ukraine became part of this strategy.

Ukraine as part of NATO’s collective security

The document specifically emphasizes: “Ukraine’s security is a contribution to our security.” This means that the Allies officially recognize that the defense of Ukrainian territory is of strategic importance for the entire Alliance.

Moreover, as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated, this formulation is an element of Ukraine’s “bridge to membership” , which confirms the unchangeable course of our country’s accession to NATO.

This formulation received support even from Hungary, which had previously blocked a number of decisions on Ukraine. At the summit, it refrained from vetoing, probably due to a coordinated position with the United States.

Military-industrial cooperation without barriers

NATO leaders also agreed to simplify trade in defense products between member countries and increase investment in shared technologies.

Although specific mechanisms have not yet been approved, this provision creates opportunities for expanding Ukraine’s access to Western weapons, including purchases from the United States, Germany, France, and other states.

Next steps and summits

The next two summits of the Alliance will be held in Turkey (2026) and Albania. Both countries are Muslim NATO member states. This decision surprised analysts, as it is possible that NATO is trying to demonstrate a global approach to security.

The Hague Summit was a strategic victory for Ukraine. The Alliance not only confirmed its unwavering support for our country, but also integrated its defense into its own collective security system. This is a step that brings Ukraine closer to full membership in NATO .

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that at the summit in The Hague, which will be held on June 25 , the topic of support for Ukraine will be one of the “big” topics.

As a reminder, a two-day NATO summit kicked off in The Hague on Tuesday, June 24. The main topics of this year’s meeting will be strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense system, increasing defense investments, deepening cooperation with the European Union, and continuing support for Ukraine in the war and reconstruction process.

It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in The Hague to participate in the two-day NATO summit .

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

One of the most anticipated NATO summits concluded today, June 25, in The Hague, the Netherlands.
