The government also released the results of a consultative vote, in which 95% of participants allegedly voted against Ukraine’s accession to the EU. In Kyiv, these actions were seen as political manipulation aimed at creating an image of the enemy and distracting Hungarians from domestic problems.

This is reported by Radio Liberty .

In his comments to reporters on the eve of the EU summit, Orban said that “the problem is war.”

“If we integrate Ukraine into the EU, we integrate war. And we don’t like that. We don’t want to be in the same community with a country that is in an armed conflict,” he said.

When asked whether Hungary’s position would change if hostilities ceased, Orban evaded the question, saying only: “There is no ceasefire yet.”

This is not the first time that the Hungarian Prime Minister has questioned Ukraine’s European future. On June 25, during the NATO summit, he explicitly stated that his goal is to block Ukraine’s membership in both the EU and the Alliance.

Orban also announced the results of the “Voks2025 referendum” initiated by his government this spring. According to official information, more than 2.2 million Hungarians took part in it, of which 95% (2.168 million people) opposed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

This vote had no legal force — it was not a referendum in the classical sense, but rather a political instrument. As the Hungarian publication Telex notes, the vote took place both at special polling stations and online, allowing people to vote multiple times from different email addresses.

Journalists also note that the actual voter turnout was only 29%, which raises serious doubts about the representativeness of the results. Moreover, the campaign was accompanied by aggressive anti-Ukrainian rhetoric from pro-government media and officials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that they respect the right of Hungarian citizens to express their opinions.

“This is not a referendum, but a manipulative action aimed at inciting baseless hatred towards Ukraine. Its real goal is to divert attention from the failures in the socio-economic policy of the Orban government,” the message said.

Kyiv also noted that Ukraine’s European integration is not only a matter of diplomacy, but also a test for the entire EU: whether individual member states will be allowed to block strategic decisions that affect the security and future of the entire continent.

Earlier, Hungarian opposition figure Peter Magyar said that the government’s public survey, which also covered Ukraine, was a “complete failure.”

As a reminder, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that his government will conduct a survey among the country’s population regarding their support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union .

As previously reported, in Hungary, the government of Viktor Orban is calling on citizens to speak out against Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has once again spoken out against Ukraine’s European integration, citing the ongoing war as the main reason.
