Russia is forced to use outdated T-62 tanks in the war against Ukraine due to a lack of modern equipment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> in the GUR.<\/p>\n

“Due to large-scale irreversible losses of weapons and military equipment during the war against Ukraine, Russia is resorting to mass decommissioning of obsolete combat vehicles. Against the backdrop of the depletion of reserves of equipment from the 1970s, the command of the Russian Armed Forces has begun an active return to operation of even older models, in particular T-62 tanks,” the GUR noted.<\/p>\n

The restoration of old tanks takes place mainly at the 103rd Armored Repair Plant in the Trans-Baikal Territory.<\/p>\n

On June 27, 2025, the transfer of 21 T-62 tanks from the Eastern Military District to the European part of the Russian Federation was recorded.<\/p>\n

“The technical condition of most of these vehicles is unsatisfactory: the tanks have been stored outdoors for decades, without maintenance. However, due to the acute shortage of modern main battle tanks, such as the T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of the T-62 is considered a temporary but forced solution,” the GUR reported.<\/p>\n

The possibilities for the production of modern technology in the Russian Federation are limited due to a lack of industrial capacity and a shortage of imported high-tech components.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that by April 2026, if current economic trends continue, a banking collapse could occur in Russia<\/a> .<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, stated that Russia has exhausted the resources that allowed the economy to demonstrate growth for two consecutive years in conditions of war and sanctions.<\/a> <\/p>\n
