The prosecutor’s office and the police have exposed a criminal organization suspected of embezzling 5.4 million hryvnias of budget funds allocated for fortifications.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was announced by<\/span><\/a> the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko.<\/span><\/p>\n

As noted, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Eastern Region reported suspicions to five members of the organization, led by the former deputy mayor of Kharkiv. In addition to the organizer, the organization included four executors – two heads of enterprises and two individual entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe organizer and director of one of the enterprises, as the main contractor, involved the head of the laying company and two of the same individual entrepreneurs in illegal activities, who purchased property for the construction of the fortification at prices inflated by more than 30% above market prices,\u201d Kravchenko explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the investigation, as a result of the organization’s activities, the state suffered losses in the amount of 5.4 million hryvnias.<\/span><\/p>\n

During searches in Kharkiv and the region, computer equipment, accounting and financial documents were seized.<\/span> The group’s organizer and perpetrators were notified of suspicion under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

“All members of the criminal organization have been detained. A petition has been filed with the court regarding the suspects to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention without setting bail,” the report says.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the SBU, together with the National Police, exposed a large-scale corruption scheme in the Odessa City Council<\/a> . Officials, together with local entrepreneurs, embezzled budget funds allocated for the installation of monuments to fallen Ukrainian soldiers.<\/p>\n
