The United States government has lifted sanctions imposed by former President Joe Biden related to the development of the Hungarian Paks nuclear power plant with the participation of Rosatom.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported by<\/span><\/a> the MTI publication, citing Foreign Minister Peter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hungarian minister emphasized that the US had previously made a number of political decisions that allegedly put Budapest in a difficult position.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, one of the sanctions decisions was the introduction of restrictions on the development of nuclear power plants, which made it impossible to continue construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Fortunately, since January, there has been a president in the White House in Washington who considers Hungary a friend. In light of this, the US government has lifted sanctions related to investments in the Paks nuclear power plant. For this, we are grateful to President Donald Trump and the Republican administration,” the official emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n

Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 said that thanks to the expansion of the Paks NPP, by the middle of the next decade, Hungary will be able to produce a significant part of the electricity needed for the country and its economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe production of large-scale equipment required for the Paks NPP is ongoing in Russia and France. Construction on site in Paks can now gain new momentum,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the minister noted, continuing construction will ensure that in the long term, the Hungarian population will pay the least for utility services, compared to other European countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, in November 2023, Hungary and Russia signed a schedule for the construction of the Paks II nuclear power plant<\/a> .<\/p>\n
