The newly elected President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, shared his views on Ukraine\u2019s prospects for joining NATO and the European Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Navrotsky stated that \u201cUkraine cannot join NATO now\u201d because \u201cit is at war.\u201d He also opposed \u201cUkraine\u2019s unconditional accession to the EU,\u201d explaining that \u201cmany countries, including Poland, have spent years meeting specific EU criteria to become members.\u201d<\/p>\n

The newly elected Polish leader emphasized that Poland seeks \u201cstrategic cooperation with Ukraine,\u201d but only \u201con a partnership basis.\u201d Nawrocki confirmed plans to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy \u201cin an appropriate diplomatic format.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUkraine, which is at war, is our neighbor, so I intend to visit all of Poland\u2019s neighbors as president,\u201d Nawrocki said.<\/p>\n

When asked if he would speak with Zelenskyy, he replied: \u201cI will certainly talk to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nawrocki added that Poland and Ukraine share many common interests and goals, but some issues remain to be resolved \u201cin the spirit of partnership,\u201d particularly \u201cmatters related to exhumations in Volhynia, which are important to Poles and their feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Ukraine allowed Poland to conduct exhumation work on Polish soldiers who died in 1939<\/a> and were buried within the borders of Lviv.<\/p>\n

As reported, Polish Foreign Minister Rados\u0142aw Sikorski stated that the election of a new president will not change the country’s foreign policy course<\/a>, in particular regarding support for Ukraine and the pro-European vector.<\/p>\n
