On Tuesday, July 1, the US Senate passed a “big and wonderful” bill proposed by President Donald Trump that cuts taxes and spending.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> on CNN.<\/p>\n

CNN noted that the Senate “barely passed the bill,” as the senators’ votes were split evenly, but the vote of US Vice President J.D. Vance was decisive.<\/p>\n

Trump’s bill would eliminate taxes on tips and overtime, as well as interest on loans for the purchase of cars assembled in the United States.<\/p>\n

It also allocates $45 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold migrants in detention facilities, $14 billion for deportations, and another $1 billion to hire an additional 10,000 agents by 2029. More than $50 billion will also go to building border fortifications.<\/p>\n

Two major federal social security programs will also be cut. Medicaid, which provides health care to poor and disabled Americans, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps people buy groceries, will be eliminated.<\/p>\n

According to the text of the bill, the national debt limit will be increased by $5 trillion.<\/p>\n
