From July 1, 2025, Denmark will begin conscripting adult women into the armed forces.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Danish Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

Until now, women in Denmark have served in the military only on a voluntary basis.<\/p>\n

However, from July 1, both men and women will have to register for an assessment for potential military service. The Danish military will initially recruit volunteers, with the remainder drawn through a lottery.<\/p>\n

Such changes were adopted due to an increase in defense spending amid worsening security problems in Europe.<\/p>\n

“With the achievement of gender equality, a gradual reform of the military service itself will begin. From 2026, a new and longer military service will be introduced, the initial duration of which will be 11 months,” the Danish Armed Forces noted.<\/p>\n

Colonel Kenneth Strom, head of the conscription program in the Danish army, said the changes were “based on a political decision and a political agreement.”<\/p>\n

“It’s based on the current security situation to get more combat power and have the skills that either the Army, Navy, Air Force, or even Special Operations Forces need,” said Kenneth Strom.<\/p>\n

Earlier it became known that Denmark will be the first in Europe to raise the retirement age to 70.<\/a> The corresponding decision was approved by the country’s parliament.<\/p>\n
