Their conversation lasted two hours.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"245\" data-end=\"463\">The Kremlin reported that Putin and Macron \u201cstressed the special responsibility of Russia and France as permanent members of the UN Security Council\u201d, and reaffirmed their support for international peace and stability.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"465\" data-end=\"763\">Putin described the talks as \u201cessential\u201d. During the conversation, the leaders of France and Russia also discussed the war in Ukraine. Putin reiterated Russia\u2019s position that any settlement should \u201caim to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and be based on new territorial realities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"948\">He also repeated Moscow\u2019s narrative that the conflict stems from years of Western neglect of Russia\u2019s security concerns and outlined Russia\u2019s conditions for implementing a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"1172\">Notably, on 30 May, during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Russia set out its conditions for declaring a ceasefire.
