He is credited with rebuilding Ukraine’s armed forces after the annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of war in Donbas. The publication also notes that on the wall of the fifth President’s office, next to Ukrainian military regalia and a picture of Putin in handcuffs, hangs a reminder of the Crimea Declaration signed in 2018 by Mike Pompeo, Trump’s then Secretary of State, in which he promised that the United States would not recognize the country.

It is these diplomatic achievements, as well as his success in persuading Trump to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons in 2017, that Poroshenko believes give him some credibility in criticizing Zelensky’s interactions with the American president. Poroshenko warns that there is a “serious communication problem” between the two diplomatic teams of Trump and Zelensky, rooted in American mistrust of Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff, and Oksana Markarova, the ambassador to Washington who angered Republicans before the American election. The result was a disastrous meeting in the Oval Office, when Trump and J.D. Vance criticized the Ukrainian leader in front of the world in a meeting for which Zelensky was not properly prepared, Poroshenko said.

He has sought to establish direct ties with Trump’s team, most recently visiting Washington in February, when he met with U.S. officials and attended the National Prayer Breakfast, where Trump spoke.

The publication also recalls that after the start of a full-scale invasion on the morning of February 24, 2022, when Russian tanks roared across the Ukrainian border, Poroshenko and Zelensky agreed to maintain unity. Three years later, this alliance fell apart.

In February, Ukrainian authorities imposed sanctions on Poroshenko. The sanctions now prevent him from traveling abroad and prevent him from supporting the Ukrainian military, to whom he has donated $200 million over the past three years. Poroshenko says the sanctions are intended to prevent him from running for president, which was discussed during negotiations for a cease-fire this year. If anything, Poroshenko says, his sanctions are a warning to every potential candidate.

Having largely refrained from criticizing the government since the invasion, Poroshenko now tells Zelensky: “I am not your enemy.” “I am side by side with you,” he said. “Not because I have no complaints – that [will be] later, after the war is over. But now unity is the key to our success,” Petro Poroshenko emphasizes.

Also follow “Pryamy” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram and Instagram.

Petro Poroshenko, in an interview with the British newspaper The Times , said that the Ukrainian authorities should learn from the experience of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who was able to convince Trump to take part in strikes against Iran’s nuclear program. “Learn from Bibi’s experience,” Poroshenko urged, arguing that Netanyahu won Trump’s support in […]

[76871,76872,76875,76894
post-1254838","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-2","category-news-feed","category-other-news","category-politics
["GET
