The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to dismiss Taras Kremen from the post of Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language upon the expiration of his term of appointment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This was reported by the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Kremne’s duties will end on July 8.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The official had previously stated that he was “independent and inconvenient” for the government because he openly pointed out shortcomings in the state’s language policy and submitted many initiatives. In particular, he proposed changes to the laws on advertising and multiple citizenship, and insisted on the introduction of mandatory exams on the history of Ukraine and the fundamentals of the Constitution for applicants for Ukrainian citizenship.<\/p>\n

Before his dismissal, Kremne distributed statements in support of his activities from Ukrainian figures on social networks and published an open appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers in support of the language ombudsman.<\/p>\n
