Former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has criticized the Pentagon’s explanation for withholding military aid to Ukraine, calling it part of Donald Trump’s “cynical game.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

He wrote about this in a column for The New York Times.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sullivan noted that the Pentagon’s arguments about the pause due to the need to check its own stockpiles do not correspond to the real reason. According to him, the restrictions affected not the Presidential Drawdown Authority program, but the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which provides for long-term contracts with American weapons manufacturers.<\/p>\n

CSIS analysts estimate that about $10 billion remains uncommitted under USAI, and that’s what must be used for contracts through 2028. Sullivan emphasized that these weapons are coming from contracts, not from the Pentagon’s stockpile, and that it’s no different from arms exports to other countries.<\/p>\n

He also noted that supplies under the presidential program continue only within the framework of Joe Biden’s permits, and the United States produces more modern ammunition for its own army.<\/p>\n

“The administration may not want to talk about it, but the reality is that the president appears to be scaling back military aid to Ukraine,” Sullivan said.<\/p>\n

Let us recall that the United States of America temporarily stopped deliveries of some anti-aircraft missiles and high-precision munitions to Ukraine<\/a> due to concerns about the level of its own defense reserves.<\/p>\n

As reported, after the news about the suspension of deliveries of part of the military aid to Ukraine, the Pentagon assures that Washington continues to work on solutions.<\/a><\/p>\n
