Russia has officially recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan, becoming the first country to do so since the Taliban seized power in 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This was reported to the Russian<\/u><\/a> Foreign Ministry and the Taliban<\/u><\/a> .<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

They noted that they hope to develop bilateral cooperation in trade, security and the fight against terrorism and drug crime.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi called Moscow’s decision a “bold step” and an example for other countries.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Moscow has gradually improved relations with the Taliban, in particular, Afghanistan has been importing gas, oil and wheat from Russia since 2022. In April of this year, Russia lifted the ban on the Taliban, which has been recognized as a terrorist organization since 2003.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

No other country has yet officially recognised the Taliban government, although China, the UAE, Uzbekistan and Pakistan have appointed ambassadors to Kabul. Western countries say international recognition of the Taliban’s rule is impossible without changes to their policies on women’s rights and restrictions on women’s education and movement without male accompaniment.<\/p>\n

Let us recall that in 2023, the Taliban, the ruling political force in Afghanistan, announced that it would officially ban the activities of all political parties in the country.<\/a><\/p>\n
