Instead of really counteracting the influence of the Moscow Church in Ukraine, the current authorities decided to deprive the primate of the UOC-MP, Metropolitan Onufry (Orest Berezovsky), of his citizenship, which will have no serious consequences, except for provoking protests from supporters of the ROC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> on the air of “Pryamoy” by Lyudmila Filipovych, an employee of the Department of Philosophy and History of Religion at the G.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“For me, too, there was a question, why now. Although we can rationally explain this to ourselves by the fact that we see that relations between the UOC and the state have reached a dead end, so to speak, and perhaps even worsened… In this conflict, other churches, in particular the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, are supposedly excluded. That is, it is present there, but the main confrontation is still between the state, between the law that limits the presence of this church,” Filipovych noted.<\/p>\n

Therefore, in her opinion, the current authorities decided to resolve these contradictions “with little blood” and bring this situation to extremes by taking away the citizenship of Ukraine from Metropolitan Onufry (Berezovsky), instead of paying attention to cooperation with the aggressor country.<\/p>\n

“Although for me, you know, whether Berezovsky has a passport or not… It’s about something else, something deeper. It’s about the degree of cooperation with the aggressor country, the degree of dependence on the Russian Orthodox Church, the responsibility that the leadership of this church must bear, which for these 30 years has been educating its flock in love for the Russian people, for the Moscow kingdom, the Moscow Patriarchate, in love for Patriarch Kirill, President Putin, and so on,” the scientist explains.<\/p>\n

At the same time, according to her, Metropolitan Onufry is not in danger of being deprived of citizenship, since he did not plan to travel abroad. At the same time, this will provoke protests from supporters of the Moscow church.<\/p>\n

“I think that Berezovsky is only in danger if he decides to leave Ukraine, and if he decides to return, he will be stopped at the border, since he has no reason to return to Ukraine. And since Metropolitan Onufriy leads a secluded lifestyle, he practically never goes anywhere outside the Feofania monastery, where this administrative center is located, he has no great need to travel even within Ukraine,” Filipovich emphasized.<\/p>\n

“What do we expect? Continuation of the confrontation, escalation of this confrontation. Neither Berezovsky himself, nor the people around him, and even more so the parishioners of his church, will accept this news positively, but will demonstrate disagreement. I even think that there will be some protests, perhaps people will come out to some large-scale rallies, where they will demand justice for their superior,” added an employee of the G.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy.<\/p>\n\t\t
