US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said the US is close to new trade agreements, the conclusion of which will be announced in the near future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The minister said that US President Donald Trump plans to send letters to 100 countries, informing them of the introduction of tariffs, which were previously suspended until July 9.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump will be sending letters to some of our trading partners saying that if you don\u2019t move forward, on August 1st you will boomerang back to the April 2nd tariff levels. So I think we will see a lot of deals very quickly,\u201d Bessant said.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, he denied that August 1 would become a new deadline for trade negotiations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are saying that this is happening right now. If you want to speed up the process, go ahead. If you want to go back to the old rate, that is your choice,\u201d he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, the Trump administration is currently focused on agreements with 18 trading partners, which account for 95% of the US trade deficit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The head of the White House National Economic Council, Kevin Gassett, has proposed \u201cconditional freedom of maneuver\u201d for countries that are engaged in serious negotiations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are deadlines and there are events that are close, so maybe something will be postponed after the deadline,\u201d he added, emphasizing that Trump himself will decide whether this can happen.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the US has previously decided to grant a 90-day reprieve to more than 75 countries<\/a> that are negotiating with US regulators on trade barriers and tariff policies. During this period, mutual duties will be temporarily reduced by 10%.<\/p>\n
