Europe’s largest port, Rotterdam, is preparing for a possible NATO war with Russia, reserving space for ships with military cargo in the event of a conflict.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was told<\/a> to the Financial Times by the executive director of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Boudewejn Simons.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the port is coordinating with neighboring Antwerp in case the arrival of British, American, and Canadian vehicles and cargo is needed.<\/p>\n

In May 2025, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that the Port of Rotterdam would provide space for ships carrying military cargo at the request of NATO.<\/p>\n

“One or more ships will be moored at the pier for several weeks, four or five times a year. In addition, military exercises will be held several times a year,” said Port Director Simons.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the length of the Port of Rotterdam is 42 kilometers. Each year it handles about 436 million tons of cargo, receiving 28,000 ships by sea and 91,000 ships by river from Germany and inland Europe.<\/p>\n

The port already had experience working with weapons, in particular, during the 2003 Gulf War, and at the height of the Cold War, it did not have a special pier for military vessels.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that neighboring Antwerp regularly receives supplies for American troops stationed in Europe. It handles 240 million tons of cargo per year, making it the second largest port in the EU.<\/p>\n
