Go ahead, laugh it off \u2014 and then start crying. Because here\u2019s the punchline: he\u2019s going to be appointed. Really.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"75\">And how <em data-start=\"8\" data-end=\"21\">masterfully<\/em> they arranged everything. Real strategists, honestly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"77\" data-end=\"242\">They managed to persuade a few supposedly sane (turns out, not so much) public figures \u2014 people with real credibility and public support \u2014 to endorse this candidacy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"244\" data-end=\"519\">Just recently, the well-known activist Ostap Ukrainets publicly backed Zavalskyy and even announced he&#8217;d serve as a \u201cmilitary representative\u201d within this structure. Something like a delegate for certain groups. Sounds impressive, doesn\u2019t it? Almost like a serious institution.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"706\">I watched Zavalsky\u2019s interview, and my first thought was that this had to be satire. A comic character, completely clueless about the very field he\u2019s supposed to defend. A living meme.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"922\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Installing someone like that at the head of a major institution only makes sense if your goal is to dismantle it, humiliate it, and turn it into a full-blown circus. And let\u2019s be honest \u2014 they\u2019re doing a great job.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t\t<aside class=\"shortcode-also\" data-title=\"Read also\" >\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/dismissal-of-the-language-ombudsman-bankova-did-not-forgive-the-criticism-what-difference-does-it-make\/\">Dismissal of the Language Ombudsman: Bankova did not forgive the criticism &#8220;what difference does it make&#8221;<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"87\">And this impression wasn\u2019t mine alone \u2014 many aware and thoughtful people felt the same.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"89\" data-end=\"279\">Now this ridiculous figure has been <em data-start=\"125\" data-end=\"137\">officially<\/em> legalized in the most predictable way possible: shielded by so-called respectable activists. Why would they do that, you ask? Think about it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"436\">Among Zavalskyy\u2019s public backers is none other than the newly appointed head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance! No further comments needed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"670\">Let me remind you: Zavalskyy defends Serdyuchka\u2019s right to be considered Russian-speaking, fails to grasp why Ukrainians are being Russified, and advocates for gently coaxing everyone to switch to Ukrainian \u2014 no pressure, no urgency.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"740\">But in the end, what\u2019s the difference between Zavalskyy and Zelenskyy?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"792\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The institution\u2019s destruction is already underway.<\/p>\n<p><em>As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to dismiss Taras Kremen from the position of Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language due to the expiration of his term of office. Previously, the official stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/tarasa-kremenia-zvilnyly-z-posady-movnoho-ombudsmena\/\">he was \u201cindependent and inconvenient\u201d for the authorities<\/a>, as he openly pointed out shortcomings in the state&#8217;s language policy and submitted many initiatives.<\/em><\/p>\n\t\t<aside class=\"shortcode-also\" data-title=\"Read also\" data-right>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/the-release-of-kremen-can-such-a-government-be-called-ukrainian\/\">Who Does This Government Serve? Kremin\u2019s Firing Triggers Outcry<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\n<p><em>It was previously reported that the Ministry of Justice, at the suggestion of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, nominated actor Oleksandr Zavalskyy for the position of language ombudsman. He is also an associate professor at the Ivan Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theater, Cinema and Television.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At the same time, Ukrainian cultural figures <a href=\"https:\/\/language-policy.info\/2025\/06\/vidkryte-zvernennia-19062025\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawLAw1lleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFRZFRMbldGV0NsMGdRZzdqAR5FUADVJh_Mab-MmCEmokaQ7_NuqzG9qbxr_M45R2_9eIfwLRp01LoS9l2Gbg_aem_IakUmxLh-uYImqWN7Og8iQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called<\/a> the competition for the position of language ombudsman an &#8220;attempt to destabilize&#8221; this institution. In an open letter, they demand that Taras Kremin remain in office for another term. The letter was signed by writers Oksana Zabuzhko, Serhiy Zhadan, Yuriy Andrukhovych, actors Ada Rogovtseva, Irma Vitovska, the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, and others.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At the same time, more than twenty public organizations have reported attempts by the Office of the President to weaken the institution of the Authorized Language Ombudsman.
