In particular, it is talking about an oil pipeline connecting the port of Odessa to the Ukrainian-Polish border.

This is reported by Bloomberg.

The company is interested in using the Odesa-Brody route, which potentially opens up access to the global maritime crude oil market. In the future, these flows could be directed to Hungary via the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline, which currently supplies the country with Russian oil.

Mol representatives emphasize that such a route could increase energy independence not only for Hungary itself, but also for the European Union as a whole. According to them, thanks to access to the Black Sea, the country could import oil from alternative sources – from the Middle East to the United States.

Although Budapest continues to receive oil from Russia under a sanctions exemption granted by the EU in 2022, the situation is gradually changing. Brussels insists on a gradual phasing out of Russian energy by 2027 – the pressure is growing, and Mol is forced to look for options.

However, the implementation of the plan is not easy. The infrastructure that the company wants to use has not been used for a long time. It needs a major renovation. In addition, the port of Odessa is one of the main targets of Russian missile attacks, and the waters of the Black Sea remain dangerous due to mining, which has been ongoing since the beginning of the full-scale war.

Mol expects the European Union to support the restoration of the Ukrainian pipeline, as the project would also allow oil to be supplied to other countries in the region — in particular, to Serbia, which is also dependent on Russian imports.

As a reminder, Hungary and Serbia plan to build an oil pipeline in 2027 that will allow the supply of Russian oil to Serbia.

As reported, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Hungary will regard Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure as a threat to its own sovereignty.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

Hungarian energy company Mol, which is often criticized for its close ties to the Russian oil market, is considering the possibility of supplying oil bypassing Russia – through Ukrainian infrastructure.
