US First Lady Melania Trump, who has largely remained out of the political spotlight since her husband returned to the White House, has become an unexpected ally of President Volodymyr Zelensky. It was her sympathy for Ukrainians and her personal Eastern European background that partly influenced Donald Trump’s decision to agree to new Patriot missile deliveries to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to journalists, Melania Trump, the wife of US President Donald Trump, has played an unexpectedly important role in supporting Ukraine in the new White House administration. Raised in the former Yugoslavia, Melania from the first days of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine showed sympathy for civilian victims and condemned the Kremlin’s violence. It was she who repeatedly drew her husband’s attention to the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n

According to Trump, one day after a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, he shared the news with his wife, and she immediately responded that “another Ukrainian city just got hit by shelling.” Such remarks, according to journalists, became the catalyst for decisions to support Ukraine, in particular on the issue of the transfer of Patriot air defense systems.<\/p>\n

The media notes that despite Melania’s distance from public political life – she spends most of her time at Mar-a-Lago or Trump Tower with her son Barron – her influence on Donald Trump’s decisions should not be underestimated. The author of a book about Melania Trump, Washington Post journalist Mary Jordan, emphasizes that the first lady has “more life experience than most of the president’s advisers”, in particular – an understanding of European politics and the history of conflicts on the continent.<\/p>\n

Melania herself has repeatedly expressed regret over the tragedy in Ukraine. Back in 2022, immediately after the invasion began, she publicly called Russia’s actions “horrible” and urged her followers on social media to support humanitarian organizations, including the Red Cross. And before returning to the White House, she spent several weeks studying foreign policy and preparing for diplomatic activities as first lady.<\/p>\n

Experts suggest that under Donald Trump’s new term, Melania Trump may become one of the most influential informal voices on foreign policy issues. And if her sympathy for Ukraine remains constant, this may positively affect support for our state in the highest political offices of the United States.<\/p>\n

As you know, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to transfer Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine<\/a> , because he does not like the shelling of civilians.<\/p>\n

Later , a landmark meeting between US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte took place at the White House<\/a> . During the briefing, Trump announced the transfer of up to 17 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine and a large amount of other military aid, which will be partly financed by European allies. The president also threatened Russia with 100% tariffs if a peace agreement on Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that the United States is preparing to transfer weapons to NATO allies worth about $10 billion \u2014 with the subsequent delivery of this equipment to Ukraine<\/a> .
