The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed a new Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Doctor of Philology and Professor Olena Ivanovska. She replaces Taras Kremin, who was dismissed on July 2. Ivanovska is a well-known folklorist in academic circles, with almost three decades of teaching experience and over 100 scientific papers, which indicate a deep knowledge of language, culture, and national identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by the representative<\/a> of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.<\/p>\n

“Ivanovska Elena Petrovna has been appointed to the position of Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language,” the message said.<\/p>\n

Olena Ivanovska was born on March 10, 1968 in Khmelnytskyi Oblast. She graduated from the Philological Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1990, and in 1995, she completed postgraduate studies at the Department of Folklore Studies. Since then, her career has been closely linked to scientific and pedagogical activities at KNU.<\/p>\n

Ivanovska works as a professor and deputy director for educational work at the Institute of Philology, and also heads the Department of Folklore Studies. She is the author of over 100 scientific works, including 17 scientific and methodological works.<\/p>\n

Her main areas of research are Ukrainian folk art, ethnopedagogy, customary law, and folklore theory. Her work is aimed at preserving Ukrainian identity through a deep understanding of language as a cultural code.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that Olena Ivanovska replaced Taras Kremin as the language ombudsman, who was dismissed in early July after more than four years of service. Ivanovska is now tasked with strengthening the state’s language policy, particularly in the context of a full-scale war, when the protection and popularization of the Ukrainian language has become part of the national security strategy.<\/p>\n
