The Italian authorities are not yet ready to join the European initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine’s needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the La Stampa newspaper, citing sources, reports European Truth.<\/p>\n

As noted, the main reason for the refusal is the lack of free funding in the budget. The Italian government emphasizes that they are not currently considering the possibility of financing such purchases from their own or European funds.<\/p>\n

Representatives of the Italian Ministry of Defense assure that the issue of purchasing American weapons was not discussed at the official level. At the same time, they urged not to interpret this decision as a decrease in the level of support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to sources in the Ministry of Defense, the only planned purchase of American military equipment currently remains the F-35 fighter jets.<\/p>\n

It is also reported that Italy received only one formal offer within NATO, which concerned American supplies, but it was mostly of a logistical nature.<\/p>\n

Recall, US President Donald Trump announced that the first batches of Patriot anti-aircraft systems have already been sent to partner countries, which will later transfer them to Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, most of Ukraine’s European allies enthusiastically welcomed the US initiative to purchase American weapons for Kyiv. However, not all countries supported this move, in particular France, which is traditionally considered one of Ukraine’s most important partners.<\/a><\/p>\n
