Ukraine\u2019s Parliament has passed a bill introducing sanctions against Russia\u2019s shadow fleet \u2014 a network of vessels used to bypass international restrictions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity party.<\/p>\n

He noted that 291 Members of Parliament voted in favor of the bill.<\/p>\n

In addition to targeting Russia’s shadow fleet, the sanctions may also apply to ships and aircraft used to transport Russian weapons or military personnel.<\/p>\n

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) will be responsible for documenting such activities. The collected data will then be entered into the State Register of Sanctions.<\/p>\n

One of the bill\u2019s co-authors, Yuliia Sirko, explained<\/a> that the legislation enables sanctions to be applied to specific sea vessels or aircraft identified by unique registration numbers, rather than to the legal entities that own them. This approach mirrors how the United Kingdom enforces similar sanctions.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, EU countries have made significant progress in agreeing on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. The new sanctions provide for a reduction in the marginal price for Russian oil.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, two members of the union, Slovakia and Malta<\/a>, oppose the approval of the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of introducing new restrictive measures that could affect not only Russia but also countries that maintain economic ties with it.<\/a><\/p>\n
