An official of the Ministry of Defense was caught embezzling over 5 million hryvnias, which were allocated for the repair of armored vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the press service of the SBU.<\/p>\n

The investigation established that the scheme was organized by the head of the quality control group of one of the military offices of the Ministry of Defense in the western region. He involved the director of a local enterprise that was performing a contract for the repair of armored personnel carriers in the fraud. Instead of restoring the combat capability of the equipment, the contractor limited himself to superficial cosmetic work. The armored vehicles remained unusable for use at the front.<\/p>\n

Despite this, a representative of the Ministry of Defense officially approved the act of completed work, which allowed the transfer of state funds to the company’s account. One of the episodes talks about the theft of 5.4 million hryvnias.<\/p>\n

A technical examination confirmed that the APCs remained in a faulty condition.<\/p>\n

Currently, the official is under suspicion under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 negligent attitude to military service under martial law. An additional qualification under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 misappropriation or embezzlement of state property is also being considered.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials do not rule out bringing other participants in the scheme to justice. The perpetrators face up to eight years in prison.<\/p>\n

The operation was carried out by military counterintelligence officers of the SBU and the National Police with the assistance of the Minister of Defense and the procedural leadership of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, a former Defense Ministry official was suspected of embezzling 33 million hryvnias for the purchase of rifles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine<\/a> .<\/p>\n

As previously reported, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicions to the deputy commander of a military unit in the Chernihiv region. He is accused of causing losses to the state in the amount of almost 25 million hryvnias during the purchase of wood<\/a> .<\/p>\n
