A third of enterprises are on the verge of closure.

This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

“More than fifty coal enterprises are already under threat of closure. In total, 179 coal mining enterprises (52 mines and 127 sections) were operating in Russia as of the beginning of 2024. The industry’s total losses for January-May have already reached $1.44 billion, and are projected to be approximately $4 billion by the end of the year,” the SZR noted.

The main causes of the crisis are:

European embargo imposed in August 2022;

a sharp drop in coal prices after the peaks of 2022;

infrastructure deterioration and logistical constraints.

It is noted that the limited capacity of Russian Railways in the east of the Russian Federation, where the main coal flows are now directed, also exacerbates the problems.

“The closure of mines will have significant socio-economic consequences, especially for mono-cities and coal regions, such as the Kemerovo region. Government support measures, including deferrals of taxes, insurance premiums, as well as debt restructuring, will not save the situation,” the intelligence agency noted.

It was previously reported that passenger air travel in Russia is rapidly declining due to Western sanctions, which has led to a significant increase in ticket prices and a reduction in the number of passengers .

As reported, the war against Ukraine, sanctions, and increased spending on the military-industrial complex have led to an increase in prices for basic food products in Russia.

In addition, ordinary Russians are massively defaulting on their credit card debts . Payments on 8.3 million credit cards are overdue for more than three months.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

Russia’s coal industry is in crisis due to the loss of the European market and falling world prices.
