MP from the Holos party Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that his faction, together with Eurosolidarity, initiated the procedure for the suspension of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk due to violation of the rules of procedure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said<\/a> this on his Telegram channel.<\/p>\n

According to Zheleznyak, the next step was to vote on the liquidation of the NABU and the SAPO \u2014 it was this decision that the people’s deputies tried to postpone.<\/p>\n

“I hope this will give the authorities some time to come to their senses,” the MP commented on the situation.<\/p>\n

In turn, Iryna Gerashchenko, a member of parliament from Eurosolidarity, added that they wanted to suspend Stefanchuk from participating in two plenary sessions of parliament.<\/p>\n

However, the Verkhovna Rada did not support this initiative – only 23 deputies voted for the suspension.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on Tuesday, July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have published an official statement regarding draft law No. 12414, which is being prepared for the second reading in the Verkhovna Rada. The anti-corruption bodies warn that the latest amendments to the document pose a serious threat to the independence of their activities.<\/a><\/p>\n
