On Tuesday, July 22, Dynamo Kyiv will begin their journey in the 2025\/26 Champions League qualification with an away match against the Maltese champions, Hamrun Spartans. The game will take place in Paola at the Hibernians Stadium and will start at 20:00 Kyiv time. The winner of the match will continue the fight for a place in the group stage of the most prestigious European cup, while the loser will be relegated to the Europa League.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first match of the second qualifying round of the Champions League between Hamrun Spartans and Dynamo Kyiv will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at the Hibernians Stadium in Paola (Malta).<\/p>\n

Ukrainian fans will be able to watch the game live on the “2+2” TV channel<\/strong> , as well as on MEGOGO<\/a> .<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hamrun Spartans: Bonello \u2013 Camenzuli, Polito, Bjelicic, Comprie \u2013 Shimkus, Cadjenovic \u2013 Ederson, Tiune, Mbong \u2013 Coffey.<\/p>\n

Dynamo Kyiv: Nescheret \u2013 Dubinchak, Mykhavko, Popov, Tymchyk \u2013 Shaparenko, Mykhailenko \u2013 Kabaev, Buyalsky, Yarmolenko \u2013 Vanat.<\/p>\n

The match will be officiated by a Spanish refereeing team led by Cesar Soto Grado. He will be assisted by Carlos Alvarez Fernandez and Ruben Becerril Gonzalez, with reserve referee Victor Garcia Verdura. The VAR system will be in operation, with Valentin Gomez as the main video assistant, and Miguel Sesma Espinosa as his assistant.<\/p>\n

General information about the match<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Hamrun Spartans are the Maltese champions, having won the title for the third time in a row, despite a disappointing first half of the domestic season. The Paola-based club is in the Champions League qualifiers for the third year in a row, but have always been eliminated by their first opponent.<\/p>\n

This year, the Maltese caused drama in the first round, eliminating the Lithuanian “\u017dalgiris” after a penalty shootout (11:10), despite losing 0:2 in the first game. Such a comeback has already entered the history of European qualifiers.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that this is the first game of the second qualifying round. The return match will take place on July 29 in Lublin (Poland)<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the third qualifying round of the Champions League<\/strong> , where they will face the winner of the Paphos-Maccabi Tel Aviv tie<\/strong> . The loser of this duel will continue their fight in the Europa League<\/strong> , where they will play the loser of the same tie.<\/p>\n

Despite being the champion of Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv has not impressed in the offseason. Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s team won only one friendly against Kisvarda (3:0), played a goalless draw with Korvinul and lost to Osijek (0:1). In the last two matches, the team did not score and had problems with emotional discipline: Tymchyk and Shaparenko were sent off.<\/p>\n

The coach is actively looking for optimal combinations of players, experimenting with schemes, and trying to integrate newcomers \u2014 in particular, Pihalyonek and Angel Torres, although the latter did not fly to Malta. However, the experienced Yarmolenko will definitely lead the team on the field.<\/p>\n

We should also add that this is the first official meeting between Hamrun Spartans and Dynamo Kyiv.<\/p>\n

Although, at first glance, Dynamo has a clear advantage in the class, the result of Hamrun in the previous round makes us be cautious. The Ukrainian giant has a chance to confidently enter the season, but for this we need to focus, not underestimate our opponent and break our own summer inertia. The Maltese have already proven that underestimating them is a fatal mistake. It is time for Dynamo to prove its status as a favorite not on paper, but on the field.<\/p>\n

Recall that the draw for the third qualifying round of the Champions League for the 2025\/26 season took place in Nyon, Switzerland<\/a> . Dynamo Kyiv received a potential opponent – the winner of the match between Paphos of Cyprus and Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel. The draw turned out to be relatively favorable for Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s team.<\/p>\n
