Volodymyr Zelenskyy will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill that will respond to public concerns about the independence of the NABU and the SAPO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He stated<\/a> this in his address on July 23.<\/p>\n

“I will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill that will be a response that will provide strength to the law and order system,” the president said.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy stated that there will be no Russian influence or interference in the activities of the NABU and SAPO, however, he emphasized the importance of the independence of anti-corruption institutions.<\/p>\n

He also called on the heads of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, as well as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, to provide proposals for norms that should work.<\/p>\n

“This will be a presidential bill, and we will implement it as part of our strategy for transforming the state,” he noted.<\/p>\n

He also emphasized that the most important thing at the moment is “not to lose the unity of the country.”<\/p>\n

People’s Deputy from the “EU” party Oleksiy Honcharenko reported<\/a> that the Rada will urgently convene to vote on Zelensky’s new draft law on NABU and SAPO next week.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP)<\/a> , effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a resonant law that significantly changes the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), strengthening control by the Prosecutor General.<\/a><\/p>\n

By the way, the Verkhovna Rada plans to prepare a submission to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to repeal Law No. 12414,<\/a> which limits the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).<\/p>\n
