Russia has focused the development of its navy on the construction of strategic submarines.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> the President of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting on the development of the Navy’s submarine forces, The Moscow Times reports.<\/p>\n

Putin stressed that the navy should focus on submarine forces. “The Navy’s submarine forces play a key role in ensuring Russia’s sovereignty and security, protecting its interests, and making a significant contribution to regional and global stability,” he said. According to him, this task is given “primary importance.”<\/p>\n

Over the past six years, Russia has commissioned five strategic missile carriers of the Borei-A project and four multi-purpose submarines of the Yasen-M project. “That’s two boats every year in six years, practically one and a half, let’s say. And that’s very good,” the president noted.<\/p>\n

Putin also announced that four more Borei nuclear submarines are planned to be commissioned in the coming years. “Two of them are under construction. These latest-generation strategic submarines are armed with Bulava ballistic missiles,” he specified.<\/p>\n

According to SIPRI, the Russian fleet currently has 12 nuclear-capable submarines, carrying a total of 192 missiles and 992 nuclear warheads\u2014about a third of Russia’s strategic arsenal.<\/p>\n

For comparison: the US has 14 strategic submarines with 280 missiles and 1,511 warheads \u2014 43% of their total arsenal of over 3,500 warheads.<\/p>\n

As reported, fresh satellite images have revealed the large-scale construction of five secret military facilities related to Russia’s nuclear forces<\/a> . Analysts warn: Moscow is building up its nuclear infrastructure amid tensions in Europe. The facilities have multi-layered security, special bunkers and logistics for transporting warheads.<\/p>\n
