The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will hold an extraordinary session on July 31 to consider an urgent bill to expand the powers of NABU and SAP.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> the speaker of parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We are talking about presidential bill No. 13533 “On Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Strengthening the Powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to Stefanchuk, he will initiate consideration of the document using a shortened procedure with adoption immediately in the first reading and as a whole, as well as with prompt signing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, the parliament will also consider other important legislative initiatives,\u201d added the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.<\/p>\n

The adoption of this bill is part of Ukraine\u2019s commitments to international partners within the framework of the reform of the anti-corruption infrastructure, in particular, in the context of European integration.<\/p>\n

Let us recall that on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO)<\/a> , effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelensky signed a resonant law that significantly changes the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), strengthening control by the Prosecutor General.<\/a><\/p>\n

By the way, the Verkhovna Rada plans to prepare a submission to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the aim of repealing Law No. 12414,<\/a> which limits the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).<\/p>\n
