This initiative is being discussed at the highest level, and the President of Ukraine has already placed the issue on the agenda.

According to MP Ruslan Horbenko, the current salary level in the rear—about 20,000 hryvnias—is unfair, especially compared to the remuneration of military personnel on the front line.

Currently, those performing combat missions receive between 100,000 and 200,000 hryvnias, while drone operators on the front line receive a bonus of 100,000 hryvnias.

However, military personnel in the rear also perform essential tasks related to logistics, coordination, support, training of recruits, and maintenance.

Therefore, it is planned to increase the minimum salaries as follows:

Privates: up to 50,000 hryvnias

Sergeants: at least 70,000 hryvnias

Junior officers: from 75,000 to 80,000 hryvnias

The MP emphasized that the goal of these changes is to align the Ukrainian army’s pay with NATO standards. For reference, the minimum salary for NATO military personnel, even those not engaged in combat operations, starts at €2,300, which is nearly 100,000 hryvnias.

“Decent conditions must be created; otherwise, people will not want to remain in the army.
